World History: The Explorer’s Class

World History: The Explorer’s Class

In the many years I’ve been wandering the world, I’ve been so lucky to see amazing sites. I do think travel is a wonderful way to learn, about other people, other cultures, and, of course, world history. All of these sites were amazing; interesting museums, beautiful castles, ancient ruins. I recommend each and every one. Cinque Terre, Italy

Cinque Terre, Italy

I’ve been to Italy several times. My daughter and I spent a week in Florence and Venice in the late 90s. We returned in 2001 for a week in Rome. Rome needs more time, there is so much to see in this amazing, ancient city. I definitely hope to visit again. I did returned to Venice a few years ago with my friend, Kelly. We visited at the end of a trip to Croatia and Slovenia in 2014. We stayed in Venice for 3 nights before flying home…

We didn’t know it, of course, but the first plane hit the tower just minutes earlier. We kept our trip plans but when we flew to Rome on November 20th, the plane only had about a dozen people on it. We traveled with Alex’s friend, Shane, and his mom, Dee. We picked them up and drove…

Florence and Venice

Florence and Venice

In the dark ages, pre-internet or early internet days, I couldn’t book trips or flights online and had to rely on travel agents, paper or the phone. I was told about a regional travel company by Debbie Schemmel, a new friend we had met on our previous trip to Bangkok, Singapore, and Hong Kong in 1997. Debbie had used the company for a trip to Europe and mailed me a flyer for this trip to Italy, recommending them. It was…
