Fundy National Park

Fundy National Park

I stopped at Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park on my drive from PEI. I arrived about an hour after low tide but found the path down to the beach. Very muddy. Very weird looking. The stairwell down to the rocks on the other side blocked off but I found a path later that led down but by then tide was coming in. I went back a couple days later to see the difference at high tide.

Fundy National Park is a small part of the Fundy Biosphere Region. And I thought “Fundy” just a bay! There are many different ecosystems within the park and region. While I definitely enjoyed seeing the tides along the bay, there are great trails throughout the park in the forest and wetlands. Entry is just CA$8.75 for a day pass.

I drove down to Point Wolfe Beach and did a long walk here. The trail is marked .5km but that is only to the start of the beach. I walked about a kilometer down around the point and back enjoying low tide. Going down the beach and back is about 3km round trip. The trip to the beach includes going over the Point Wolfe Covered Bridge, there are a couple places to pull over for a nice view of the bridge.

Dickson Falls

On the drive back up Point Wolfe Road I also did the Dickson Falls walk. Lovely walk with lots of stairs up and down on a boardwalk along the gorge. Gorgeous views.

Returning to the main road, I did the Caribou trails, Caribou Plains, Caribou Bog and Caribou Boardwalk. Parts of the plains trail have wood and, of course, the boardwalk, both are very slick in the rain but it is a gorgeous walk through the forest and wetlands.

The last day in town, I stopped by Chignecto Recreation Area and did the Ursa Minor, Ursa Major and Orion. All short easy trails. I also stopped by Bennett Brook for a walk around the lake. It was very cloudy and foggy but the rain held off and I had a nice few hours in the park before continuing my drive.

I started the Fundy Trail Parkway at the Eastern Park Entrance coming from Cape Enrage. I stopped and did the Walton Glen Gorge first. Lovely walk. I tried the Long Beach Loop but about 1/2 km in the trail disappeared so I just went to beach for long walk out at low tide. I did the Big Salmon River Loop, Suspension Foot Bridge, the Pioneer Trail Loop and Sea Captain’s Cemetery.

I visited all the lookouts at Fundy, Seely Beach, Hairpin Turn, Interpretative Center, Hearst, Black Point, and Melvin Beach. Entry to the park is CA$11.

I was staying on Cape Enrage Road so visited the lighthouse (not open) and lookout and did a trail the first night, just a few kilometers from my AirBNB.

This area is lovely and I am so glad I had a few days to visit even if the weather was not as I would have wished.
